Most Shea Body Butters, Lotions, and Creams have between 4-8% Shea Butter in them. Not ours. Ours has a whopping 30%! AND, if that's not enough deliciousness for you, we’ve also folded in a layer of Virgin Cocoa and Mango Butters, as well as, a mixture of Organic Hempseed, Grapeseed, and Coconut Oils! We guarantee you will not find this recipe anywhere else! It’s a passion of ours… Let me tell you how it started.

In 1924, Khady Bouli Hane, a Senagalese poetry writer, described a day in the life of the women of Dakar. Her words made an art of the long, hot day of gathering Karite (Shea Tree) Nuts and breaking them open to scoop out the fresh meat or “butter.” Today, her great-great-great granddaughters still practice this daily ritual near the shores of Laguna Beach at Noir. It is from Khady’s humble beginnings that the Fair Trade Banner now flies over villages where women do much more than eek out a meager living. In fact, because of Fair Trade in the rural areas, like Khady’s, Shea Butter is now referred to as “Women’s Gold.”

Our recipe begins in 1924, in Senegal, with raw, golden Shea Butter, extracted and prepared by cold process methods, without the use of added chemicals. This caliber of Shea Butter is a powerful, cellular regenerator that slows DNA Degradation (premature aging). It has intense and lasting hydration and nourishing powers for the face, body, and hair. Shea Butter is non-comedogenic meaning it does not clog pores, so it is invaluable to those with acne-prone skin. With the added (Vegan-Sourced) Vitamins A, B, E, F and K, and Trace Minerals (even the Calcium is from Tofu), our Whipped Triple Body Butter has maximum skin softening properties and is highly effective at preventing wrinkles, fine lines, and stretch marks. Our Body Butter also protects the skin from many environmental stressors and acts as a mild, natural sunscreen before, during, and after the tanning process, protecting the skin from the sun, wind, and salt.

Try our Whipped Triple Body Butter. It's thick, but creamy texture will testify to its supremacy over the standard faire. Lest you think ingredients, don’t matter, remember: “80% of what goes ON your skin goes IN your skin.”

Other Notes:

Vitamin A in our body butter is important for improving a number of skin conditions including blemishes, wrinkles, eczema, and dermatitis. Additionally, Shea Butter has properties that effectively treat skin allergies, sunburn, itching, frostbite, bug bites, small skin wounds, radiation burns, and a number of other skin conditions. The moisturizers in Shea Butter are the same moisturizers present in the sebaceous glands (a small gland in the skin which secretes a lubricating oily matter [sebum] into the hair follicles to lubricate the skin and hair). In the right balance, sebum helps keep the skin conditioned and prevents dryness. If you have particularly dry skin, the Vitamin E in Shea Butter can help counteract a lack of sebum. Vitamin E also helps in the treatment of skin inflammation.

The Vitamin E in our body butter is a powerful antioxidant. Its main function, in skincare, is to protect against the harmful effects of sun damage and environmental exposure. Vitamin E absorbs the harmful UV light from the sun by acting as an anti-free radical agent, increasing micro-circulation, which results in increased blood circulation to and from the skin. Photoprotection refers to the body's ability to minimize the damage caused by UV rays. This can help prevent dark spots and wrinkles.

The Vitamin F in our body butter is better known as linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that is crucial in skin and hair regeneration. Shea Butter contains other essential fatty acids (stearic, oleic, and palmitic) which have proven to reduce inflammation and provide other powerful skin benefits.

The Vitamin K in our body butter is essential in aiding the body's process of blood clotting, which helps the body heal wounds and bruises. The basic functions of Vitamin K have also been proven to help with stretch marks, spider veins, scars dark spots, and stubborn circles under the eyes. Doctors frequently use creams with Vitamin K on patients who have just undergone surgery to help reduce swelling and bruising.

For Hair: Great hair conditioner to “feed” hair cells and follicles. Leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Karite means "Tree of Life."
